Volume controls reimagined for the next wave of Redstone

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update indeed brought a lot of new features to desktop users, but it’s no secret that many expected even more than that, including here tabs in File Explorer and visual tweaks.

One of the most requested features is a more advanced volume controller, and while Microsoft remains tight-lipped on getting such a feature in Redstone 2, one skilled designer has created his own concept imagining what this should look like in the next Windows 10 update due in spring 2017.

The concept

As designer Can Aslan explains on Behance, his concept was designed to make it easier to control the volume of apps and devices that are connected to a PC, so speaker and system sound settings can be easily accessed through the hyperlinked titles.

Additionally, all volume levels can be reset instantly to the master volume by using the dedicated reset button at the top of flyout menu, while the dropdown menu for output device selection is not at the bottom of the main volume window.

The overall design of the concept is clean and really makes sense in Windows 10, although we’re pretty sure that, if Microsoft ever decides to introduce such a feature, it certainly gives its own touches to make it more unique. But the idea is clearly welcome, and Microsoft should really have a look at this concept if it wants to find new ways to improve the user experience in Windows 10.

Microsoft executives previously said that company designers check out every concept, and given the new feedback-based approach, there are some chances to see volume control improvements in Redstone 2.

According to people with knowledge of the matter, Redstone 2 should see daylight in the spring of 2017, with insiders currently getting the first preview builds for testing purposes - they’re not bringing too many changes, though, so it’s still too early to tell whether improvements in this area are planned or not.
