It turns out that all the rumors regarding Microsoft's intention to release Windows 10 on USB flash drives were accurate, as the first such sticks showed up online earlier today on Amazon and can be pre-ordered by anyone who wants a quicker way to install the new OS.

In fact, the easiest way to install Windows 10 is to purchase it online, but USB flash drives definitely come as a helpful alternative to the classic DVD, so expect them to sell much better than the traditional disc which has been around for so many years.

Both the Home and Pro versions can be purchased on USB flash drives from Amazon, but according to the official information posted on the retail page, they are expected to ship on August 16, which is nearly half a month after the debut of Windows 10.

Right now, it's not yet clear whether this is the final date for the shipments, or it's just a placeholder date until Windows 10 launches on July 29.

Same price as for the DVD

Back in June when the first rumors regarding the Windows 10 USB flash drives reached the web, there were some voices that suggested that Microsoft planned to add an extra $25 to the price of the operating system if you want to purchase the stick.

It turns out that either these reports were false or Microsoft changed the strategy at the very last minute, as the USB flash drives come with the same pricing as the DVD.

So if you want to purchase the Home version of Windows 10 on a USB stick, you have to pay $119.99, while the Pro version costs $199.99.

Windows 10 will launch on July 29 and will be offered as a free upgrade to genuine Windows 7 and 8.1 users. Everyone else will have to pay $119.99 for the Home and $199.99 for the Pro.
