Microsoft could be making more changes to your PC

Microsoft has changed the way updates are delivered to users in Windows 10, making it mandatory for Home users to download and install these patches as soon as they are delivered, but it appears that there are some more subtle modifications to update guidelines.

Myce.com has come across a number of updated terms regarding Windows Update, which specifically state that the updates that Microsoft might be releasing for your computer at some point in the future could block you from playing pirated games and disable the use of unauthorized hardware.

Specifically, the new terms of service explain that Microsoft might “download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices.”

What unauthorized hardware could mean

While it's pretty clear what “counterfeit games” means, it's not as obvious what the company is referring to when mentioning “unauthorized hardware peripheral devices,” as there's no specific reference to the kind of accessories that might be blocked from being used on a Windows 10 device.

For example, Microsoft could stop Windows 10 adopters from using specific Xbox-like controllers unless the company specifically authorizes them, so the it might in one way or another force you to buy only genuine controllers and peripherals for devices.

As far as pirated games are concerned, Microsoft is most likely targeting its own titles with this update, but since the door has already been opened, it's possible for the software giant to work with other companies at any times to block more counterfeited titles from being launched on a Windows 10 device.

Obviously, the best way to prevent this is by disabling Windows Update completely or at least waiting before installing updates to see if there's indeed any change that they might bring in terms of allowed games and hardware. On Windows 10 Home, however, this is pretty much impossible, given the fact that Microsoft has made updates mandatory and fully automatic on this SKU.
