New context menu option added for Windows Defender

Microsoft has added plenty of improvements in Threshold 2, and one of them is supposed to help users quickly scan files with Windows Defender should they want to stick to this security app and avoid getting a third-party solution.

Windows Defender is the default security product that's pre-installed in Windows 10, and since many are actually relying on it to keep their computers secure, Microsoft has decided to make it easier for users to scan their files.

So after updating to Threshold 2, there's a new option in the context menu that makes it possible to quickly scan a specific file or folder with Windows Defender. As WinSuperSite writes, just right-click a file, and there's an option saying “Scan with Windows Defender.”

Same option existed in Windows 8.1 with a catch

While many might recall seeing this feature in previous Windows versions, there are a number of users who actually added the option to quickly scan a file with Windows Defender in Windows 8 and 8.1.

It was all possible with a registry trick that edited the context menu, so Microsoft most likely became aware of the huge interest for such an option and they decided to make it available by default so that anyone running Windows 10 Threshold 2 can use it.

Windows Defender might not be the best security product out there, but there are users who claim that their computers are completely secure without the need for a third-party app. As long as you stay away from websites that might pose a threat to your computer, Windows Defender is just enough to block the common threats.

Many believe that Microsoft should integrate a much more powerful security solution in Windows 10, but until that happens, have a look on the software products listed on Softpedia and download an antivirus app if you still feel the need for extra security.
