Latest Windows 10 build coming with updated Task Manager

Microsoft has updated the Windows 10 Task Manager with GPU information as part of the latest Insider preview build and ahead of the public launch of the Fall Creators Update coming in September.

The new Task Manager comes with a dedicated section of GPU in the Performance tab and lets you get information like GPU utilization, GPU memory, driver version and date, and see a graph to determine how your PC is using dedicated or shared GPU memory.

Based on customer feedback

Microsoft says the new GPU data section is based on customer feedback and it’s just in its early days, with more improvements to be released by the time the Fall Creators Update goes live for everyone.

“Our engineering team used the feedback you gave us that is part of this Feedback Collection to prioritize and to design the feature – thank you! The Performance tab shows GPU utilization information for each separate GPU component (such as 3D and Video encode/decode), as well as graphics memory usage stats. The Details tab shows you GPU utilization info for each process. Please note that this feature is still under construction and you will find issues and bugs, as always please send us feedback in Feedback Hub under Desktop Environment > Task manager,” Microsoft says.

To see the new GPU information yourselves, simply right-click the Windows 10 taskbar and fire up Task Manager. If you’re running in the minimal mode, click the option that reads More details and then head over to the Performance tab. The new GPU section is located at the bottom of the list.

Obviously, if you have more than one graphics card, as it’s the case with our Windows 10 testing system here at Softpedia, you’re going to have more than just a GPU section, though Microsoft could very well combine them and let you choose which one to look into from a drop-down menu in the same screen.

We’ve also hit some issues on the latest Windows 10 build, with Task Manager sometime failing to launch, but since this is work in progress, more fixes should be delivered in the next updates.
