14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working on a new feature for Windows 10 users, this time in an attempt to make the Start menu even more helpful for those who continue to rely on it as the main method to access their essential apps and files.
The Windows 10 Creators Update (also known as Redstone 2) will come with support for folders in the Start menu, meaning that you’ll be allowed to group several live tiles in just one folder for a little bit of better management.
The GIF below (via MSPU) shows the new folder feature in action, and there’s no doubt that you’ll find it familiar.
Bringing PCs and smartphones in sync
Pretty much the same implementation is available on Windows 10 Mobile, where you can group several tiles into just one folder to keep your Start clean. Bringing it on the desktop is probably part of Microsoft’s plans for keeping PCs and smartphones in sync, and the Creators Update will be the OS update that’ll make this step.
One thing that’s worth mentioning, however, is that this new feature doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to pin folders on your local drive to the Start menu, but only create folders that group 2 or more live tiles. This is a feature that’s particularly helpful for those using store apps on their PCs.
The feature will most likely be implemented in the next Windows 10 build which, according to Microsoft’s plans, should go live in the first weeks of January. The Windows team is on vacation now, so the next build should be launched in early 2017.
January is quite an important month for Microsoft, as the company is expected to finalize work on new features for Windows 10 Creators Update, before starting the bug hunt and preparing the groundwork for the Redstone 3 update due in the fall of 2017.
