Your most used apps might be your least used apps

The Start menu is back in Windows 10 after so much criticism, and Microsoft introduced not only a new design that includes live tiles but also several new features supposed to make it a little bit more useful.

One of these features is the “most used” apps list, which pretty much does exactly what its name suggests: it shows the apps you use the most to make it easier for you to launch them, especially when not having other shortcuts on the taskbar or on the desktop.

Unfortunately, this “most used” apps list actually fails to work properly, and its algorithm seems to be broken down, as in some of the cases, it shows the least used apps.

The screenshot you see in this article is made on a computer running Windows 10 since the debut of the operating system on July 29, 2015, so it’s nearly impossible for Sway and Maps to be included in this list since Mozilla Thunderbird is launched every single day and runs at least 10 hours per day.

What’s more, putting the “Get Started” app on this list makes absolutely no sense, especially because if anyone uses it (we’re pretty sure that only very few Windows 10 adopters actually launch it anyway), it doesn’t do it more than once.

More users seeing the bug

Searching the web for more information on this potential bug has revealed that there are several users who are seeing a “most used” apps list that makes no sense. A post in the Windows 10 Feedback app says almost the same thing as this article:

“Most used is amusingly useless. It shows me only apps I *literally* never use. It also does not update. ‘Get Skype’ is supposed to be my most used app. Why would even use this more than once?” the post reads.

We’re not sure if the same problem exists on all Windows 10 PCs, but no matter if it does or not, Microsoft should fix this in a future update. Or rename it to “least used apps.”
