Microsoft will finalize work on the new OS this week

As we reported to you yesterday, the first Windows 10 RTM candidate was spotted online, and people close to the matter have confirmed that Microsoft is set to finalize work on the new operating system sometime this week, so it’s pretty clear that we’re getting closer to the moment when the company is set to sign off its new Windows.

But now we also have a date, as Microsoft is reportedly looking at July 9 as the sign-off date for Windows 10 RTM, which means that, beyond this date, no other modification would be made to the operating system.

The first to unveil the date was Russian leaker WZor, who said that Microsoft was planning to ready Windows 10 RTM on July 9, after evaluating several candidates, so on Thursday, we might get an announcement on this to find out whether the leaks were accurate or not.

What’s next after RTM?

RTM is a critical milestone in the development of the new Windows, and Microsoft will no longer touch the operating system beyond this date. If you expect any leaks, they are indeed possible, but as usual, nothing is certain.

Once in RTM, Windows 10 will be delivered to OEMs to install the new OS on their devices and prepare for the big launch on July 29.

“We will give a build of Windows 10 to our OEM partners so they can start imaging new devices with Windows 10. The new devices our partners are working on are very exciting, I can’t wait to hear your feedback as you get a chance to use them,” Windows boss Terry Myerson said last week.

“Soon after, we will distribute a build of Windows 10 to retailers all over the world, so they can assist their customers with upgrades of newly purchased devices that were originally imaged with Windows 8.1.”

Windows 10 will become available for Windows insiders on July 29, but everyone else will also get it shortly after that. The release will take place in waves, and computers that are fully compatible with the new OS will get it first, the company says.
