RTM is planned for this week, ahead of the launch on July 29

Microsoft is planning to finalize work on Windows 10 sometime this week, and according to new information, the company is looking at July 15 as a potential date for this important milestone in the development of the new operating system.

Previous reports pointed out that Windows 10 was expected to reach RTM in the middle of this week, so the new July 15 date perfectly aligns with this, which could be another sign that Microsoft is very close to signing off the new operating system.

Needless to say, there’s no confirmation from the company, any executive, or developer working on the project, so let’s not take this for granted until we hear something official.

Microsoft originally planned to push Windows 10 to RTM last week, but the company reportedly agreed with a small delay in order to complete work on some features and bugs that weren’t entirely fixed at that moment. The delay shouldn’t affect the Windows 10 rollout in any way, especially because OEMs still have about two weeks to prepare for the launch, while insiders and upgraders will still get the new OS as planned.

No new build for insiders?

Microsoft released a new build for Windows insiders, namely 10166, last week, and this could be last version that testers get before RTM.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, indeed hinted in his announcement that this could be the last build until July 29, when everyone gets the final bits of the OS, but don’t be too surprised if the company decides to push out another testing build at the very last minute just to make sure that everything works according to plan.

“For those of you on older builds - now is definitely the time to upgrade to the most current build,” Aul said. “Thank you to all of our Windows Insiders who have given us terrific feedback and helped us shape Windows 10. We’re getting close to release now and the whole team here is working hard and incredibly excited!”

Windows 10 build 10176 is said to be the first RTM candidate, and this version already got leaked last week and is available for download from file-sharing websites.
