Build 15048 now available for users in the Slow ring

Microsoft shipped Windows 10 build 15048 to users in the Slow ring after previously releasing it as a Fast ring exclusive update last week.

The company rolls out new builds for the Slow ring only when they are stable enough, and the majority of bugs are already fixed, so today’s announcement is living proof that work on the Creators Update is advancing and build 15048 can safely be installed on more PCs.

Windows 10 build 15048 is the first release of the year for users in the Slow ring, after Microsoft previously rolled out build 14986 in December 2016.

What’s new in build 15048?

It goes without saying that insiders in the Slow ring have a lot to discover in this new build, especially because the previous build they received was released in December.

Although the latest few builds shipped by Microsoft as part of the Insider program didn’t bring any new features (work on the Creators Update is in the final stages and the company is focusing exclusively on fixing bugs and improving performance), the gap between the previous build and today’s version for the Slow ring includes lots of new goodies to try out.

As far as build 15048 itself is concerned, it’s all about fixing bugs, and you can check out the full changelog in the box at the end of the article. One of the essential fixes concerns universal apps, which should no longer appear with the package name on the desktop, as this was one of the most common problems in the previous builds.

There are also some known issues in this build, and even though the Slow ring is supposed to be more stable than the Fast ring, users installing it should have a look at the release notes to make sure they’re aware of all changes. You can find the full change log below.
