New build released for the fast ring of the Insider program

Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 Redstone preview build, only 7 days after the previous one, thus showing that the company is very keen on its faster “fast ring” that it announced in late 2015.

Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14257 is only available for members of the fast ring for now, but depending on how quickly bugs and issues are being fixed, the slow channel could get it too.

Just like before, this release is all about addressing the previously discovered problems, so you’re not going to find any big changes in this. Gabriel Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program, has explained that the Windows team is still working on refining the overall experience of the OS, so it takes a while until significant features start showing up.

“We’re at the beginning of a new development cycle for our next feature update to Windows 10. Teams are still early in their new feature work and changes in this build are mostly about laying the foundation for those features to start coming into builds. So you won’t see many visible changes quite yet,” he added.

Small changes in new builds

Aul went on to explain that the accelerated release cadence also means that new builds won’t bring too many big changes at once because they are launched much faster than before, so the team doesn’t have enough time to include significant new features with every release.

“The increased pace of the Fast ring (You’ll note that this build is only 6 revs newer than the last build we sent to the Fast ring) means that there will be fewer big changes between builds as opposed to this time last year when builds were about 30 days apart. There is a ton of coding work going on, but I want to set your expectations on how it will show up for you at our increased Fast ring pace,” he continued.

Just like any other preview build, this one comes with a list of fixed bugs and known issues, and you can check it in the box after the jump.
