Microsoft has paused the Windows Insider program until early January, as the Windows team is on holiday, so new builds would be released in the first weeks of 2017.
According to a new report, the next few builds of Windows 10 Redstone 2 (officially known as Windows 10 Creators Update) will be critical for the next OS update, as Microsoft is aiming to finalize development of new features and then concentrate specifically on fixing bugs and improving performance.
The target is to finalize new features in January and then focus on bug fixing, which will be performed with help from Insiders. Just like it happened with the previous OS updates and with Windows 10 itself, insiders will be the first to receive the final Windows 10 Creators Update build.
Rumor has it that the Creators Update is projected to launch in March as version 1703, so Microsoft wants to have at least one month of bug squashing before the public launch.
Windows 10 Redstone 3
With Windows 10 Redstone 2 almost ready, Microsoft is also preparing to start work on the third Redstone update, which, according to speculation, should see daylight in the fall of next year.
This means that Microsoft will release two large updates for Windows 10 in 2017, and Redstone 3 will be specifically supposed to continue Microsoft’s 3D approach that will be adopted with the Creators Update.
It’s believed that the launch of Redstone 3 might be synchronized with the introduction of the Surface Phone, an eagerly anticipated Microsoft phone running Windows 10. Both are expected in the fall, and the OS update would include several improvements aimed at phones.
Not many details regarding Redstone 3 are available at the moment, but soon after the Creators Update ships, insiders should be provided with the first builds that are part of this release.
