Windows 10 was released on July 29 and Microsoft is working to make it available for all those who are eligible for the free upgrade, but statistics show that the operating system is already performing really well.

Data provided by GoSquared's Global Metrics service show that Windows 10 reached a record market share today, as it was spotted running on 15.67 percent of the computers across the world. These figures were reported on August 20 at 23:00 GMT+2, while overall, Windows 10 accounts for 13 percent of the whole Windows market share.

Windows 10 is offered as a free upgrade to those running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 on their computers, so these figures are expected to grow even more in the coming weeks.

The rollout continues these days

Microsoft is rolling out Windows 10 in waves, trying to fix compatibility issues and other problems before shipping the operating system to computers across the world. Once these issues are fixed, Windows 10 should arrive on all computers, and Microsoft says that this shouldn't take more than a few weeks.

“We are rolling the upgrades out in phases to manage high demand and to make sure that your upgrade is right for your device. You might not have received a notification because we are working on a specific compatibility fix for your device, or it could be because of the overall volume of devices upgrading to Windows 10. Your upgrade notification will arrive when your device is ready to upgrade,' Microsoft explained in a statement.

Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on a total of 1 billion devices by 2017, so these figures show that the company is on the right path, but it remains to be seen how adoption actually goes on the long term. Upgrading eligible Windows users to Windows 10 is clearly a priority, so Microsoft must work hard to make the upgrade available to everyone as soon as possible.
