14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft keeps working on making Windows 10 a more secure operating system for everyone, and as part of the upcoming Redstone 4 update, the company will bring the enterprise-exclusive Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) to the Pro SKU as well.
The first build to bring this change is 17063 which was released a few hours ago, with Windows Defender Application Guard to become available for everyone once the RTM build of the OS update ships in the spring of 2018.
WDAG is a feature that protects computers against targeted threats using Hyper-V virtualization technology, and Microsoft says that thanks to this new technology, Edge becomes “the world’s most secure browser.” An in-depth look at what WDAG can do on a Windows 10 computer was provided by Chas Jeffries, Lead Program Manager, Windows Enterprise and Security, at Microsoft Ignite earlier this year, and you can watch the presentation in full at the end of the article.
Based on user feedback
The software giant says this particular improvement is based on user feedback, revealing that many Windows 10 Pro adopters requested WDAG to be released to this SKU as well.
“You spoke, and we listened. Microsoft is bringing Windows Defender Application Guard to Windows 10 Professional in the next feature update of Windows 10. Now, like Windows 10 Enterprise users, Windows 10 Pro Users can navigate the Internet in Application Guard knowing their systems are protected from even the most sophisticated browser attacks,” Microsoft explained in the release notes of build 17063.
Windows Defender has improved substantially lately and the most recent Windows 10 updates brought major updates.
For example, Windows Defender evolved into Windows Defender Security Center with the release of the Windows 10 Creators Update earlier this year, now grouping all security features on a PC, including antivirus capabilities, firewall and network protection, app and browser control, device performance and health status, and parental settings.
