Windows 10 was launched exactly 64 days ago, and during this whole time the new operating system performed decently, with many claiming that it managed to increase its share even faster than Windows 7 – the OS that was, is, and will continue to be the leader of the desktop world for many months from now.

But in reality, Windows 10 is yet to reach a 10 percent market share worldwide, as the upgrade effort continues and Microsoft is still working to make it available to more users that can freely install it because they're running a genuine copy of Windows 7 or 8.1.

According to these figures provided by StatCounter, adoption of Windows 10 in Europe is going much better than in other parts of the world, as the new OS has already reached a 10 percent market share last month.

The third most-used desktop OS

As we said, Windows 7 continues to be the clear leader of the pack and is running on 47.73 percent of the PCs on the continent, while Windows 8.1 is the runner-up, but still far behind, with just 15.05 percent.

The good news is that both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are losing users these days while Windows 10 keeps growing, so a change of places could happen very soon.

Windows 10 is on the third position with 10.33 percent, only slightly better than Mac OS X, currently at 10.12 percent. Windows XP is also collapsing very fast, now at 7.74 percent, followed by Windows Vista with 2.92 percent and Windows 8 with 2.35 percent.

Obviously, all eyes are on Windows 10 these days and everyone expects it to keep growing more and more in the coming months, as the upgrade becomes available to more users who are eligible for the free offer. Time will tell, however, if it has what it takes to surpass Windows 7.
