14 DAY TRIAL // It’s no secret that Microsoft is working on an Apple Handoff-like feature for Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile, and while the company has remained rather tight-lipped on everything related to this new functionality, it appears that development advances at a really good pace.
Similar functionality has already been spotted in Windows 10 Mobile preview builds, and a report by MSPU points to a feature called “Continue App Experiences” in the most recent releases, which “lets apps on my other devices open apps and continue experience on this device.”
The purpose of the feature is quite simple, actually, and what it does is to allow you to start work on one of your devices and continue from where you left off on another.
So, for instance, if you start writing an email on your Windows 10 PC, but you need to go, you can continue exactly from where you left off on your Windows 10 Mobile device. This is possible with universal apps, and this is one of the reasons Microsoft is pushing so hard for this concept.
Apple Handoff-like feature
This feature is very similar to the so-called Apple Handoff, a feature that also provides users with seamless transition between Apple devices and allows them to continue their work both at the desk and on the go as they switch from a phone to a PC or a tablet or the other way around.
“Continuity features include Handoff, iPhone Cellular Calls, SMS, and Instant Hotspot. For example, you can start an email or document on your iPhone and pick up where you left off on your iPad. Or you can use your iPad or Mac to make and receive phone calls through your iPhone,” Apple says about this feature.
At this point, it’s not yet clear when Microsoft will start offering users access to its own Handoff-like tool, especially given the fact that the Anniversary Update is entering the final stages of development. Still, the good thing is that work in this direction is advancing, and the debut is expected to take place at some point in the near future.
