Microsoft is getting ready to roll out Windows 10 Mobile to devices running Windows Phone, and it appears that this imminent release is making people not only hold onto their handsets but also return to the platform in case they’ve already jumped ship.

Statistics provided by comScore for the three-month period ending November 2015 show that Windows Phone has a market share of 2.8 percent in the United States. Android is number one with 53.1 percent while Apple is the runner-up with 43.1 percent.

Now comes the interesting part. These figures show that Windows Phone dropped 0.1 percent as compared to the three-month period ending August 2015, but at the same time, it’s also an increase of 0.1 percent from the month of October.

So while the platform is below the performance it achieved in the summer, it’s actually recovering these days thanks to the arrival of Windows 10 Mobile.

The launch of Windows 10 Mobile

But undoubtedly, the whole secrecy regarding the date when Windows 10 Mobile would ship doesn’t help at all.

Microsoft has only provided us with a vague “early 2016” release date, but there’s information coming from carriers who are part of the rollout that the process could begin in the coming days or weeks.

T-Mobile Germany, for instance, already has a list of devices to be updated as part of this original rollout, and says that Microsoft plans to start the release of Windows 10 Mobile within the next two weeks.

For the moment, there’s no confirmation from Microsoft that this is indeed true, so take everything with a pinch of salt until the company says anything about it. In the meantime, the fastest way to get the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile is by registering for the Windows Insider program, which already has the final version of the operating system (although in preview form, which could mean that bugs and performance issues still exist).
