If you've been wondering how much you will have to wait for your Windows Phone handset to finally receive the promised Windows 10 Mobile upgrade, then you will be pleased to know that there's not much to wait now.

Microsoft has just published the “software update for Lumia with Windows 10” webpage, which will allow those who own Lumia smartphones to check for Windows 10 Mobile availability for their devices regardless of where they live.

Aside from the fact that it will contain information on what smartphones can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile and when, Microsoft is also answering all FAQs that Windows Phone fans might have to smoothly update their devices.

According to Microsoft, “your phone supports wireless Over the Air (OTA) updates and there is no need for cables or a computer; you can simply download and install the update using your phone. Also, your settings, apps, photos, and text messages remain safe and sound.”

Another hint that Windows 10 Mobile is just around the corner

Windows Phone users will have to wait to be notified on their phones when the update is available for download. Additionally, they can check for Windows 10 Mobile by heading to Settings / Update & security / Phone update and Check for updates.

Obviously, Microsoft recommends each Windows Phone user to free some storage in their smartphones before upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile since the update is quite large.

You will need up to 1.5 GB free internal memory (depending on the phone model and software release) to make sure that the update process will go smoothly.

You will also need to make sure that your phone has enough battery (at least 50%) before proceeding to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile.

All in all, Microsoft is expected to release the final version of Windows 10 Mobile on November 12. The company might release the new OS as an update for those who use Windows Phone 8.1 devices around the same timeframe.
