Microsoft planning more improvements for Edge browser

Windows 10 Redstone 2 will launch in early 2017 with improvements to both PCs and mobile devices, and as far as the latter category is concerned, it turns out that Edge is one of the apps that are going to receive new features as part of this release.

Aggiornamentilumia.it has discovered that Microsoft is testing a new so-called “Snooze” feature in Edge browser on mobile devices that allows users to set up reminders when loading specific websites and be notified at a later time to see the page or share it with contacts.

Although the name Snooze doesn’t seem to make too much sense now, keep in mind that this feature is still in its early days, so Microsoft is still experimenting with various improvements that would then be implemented in the final version expected to be released to users in 2017.

Could launch in next preview builds

For the moment, it appears that the company is hard at work to get it ready for the upcoming preview builds shipped as part of the Windows Insider program, but it’s not yet clear if the next release would include it - a new build is projected to go live this week for both PCs and mobile devices and will include a fix addressed at a bug breaking down Wi-Fi on a number of devices.

Snooze will make it possible for Windows 10 Mobile devices to bring up Cortana and have her set a reminder that would include the currently loaded page, a contact whom you might want to share the link with, a location, and a date.

This feature will be directly integrated into the Edge browser and seems to be tied to Cortana, so it’s not yet known what will happen in the case of users who do not have the personal assistant enabled either because they don’t want to or because they can’t, given the limited availability in certain markets.

Redstone 2 is due in the spring of 2017, so many more features are expected to show up in the coming months, especially because Microsoft is now preparing to implement more of them in preview builds.
