No info as to when or if this app gets the green light

Microsoft is reportedly working on a major overhaul of Windows 10 Mobile, even though the company has never said a single word about it, presumably because plans could change overnight should something not go as planned.

This eagerly-anticipated makeover of the mobile platform is said to include a new Photos app, and the folks over at Aggiornamenti Lumia got the chance to give it a try ahead of its public launch.

Basically, the Photos app is projected to become a more advanced photo viewer and editor, so in addition to opening the photos on your device, including here both PCs and phones, you will also be able to apply a series of edits, like cropping and rotating, enhancing filters, and other adjustments.

An advanced photo editor

The Photos app already supports some basic edits, but with the upcoming update, it’ll become a much more advanced editor, with options to adjust more advanced photo settings, like warmth, tint, and clarity.

Additionally, you will also be allowed to draw on a photo, similar to what you can do right now in the WhatsApp photo editor that shows up before sharing a picture with a contact. This is presumably a feature that would work well with a stylus on Windows 10 devices and, with a little luck, with a pen that comes with a more advanced Windows 10 smartphone like the Surface Phone.

At this point, it’s not yet known if Microsoft’s plans still include bringing this revised Photos app to Windows 10 Mobile devices, but there’s a good chance this won’t happen before the Fall Creators Update coming in September.

Until now, Microsoft has focused entirely on bug fixes for Windows 10 Mobile Fall Creators Update, and there’s almost no new feature coming in for smartphones this time. On the other hand, the next update is likely to include more substantial changes for mobile, so fingers crossed for this update Photos app as well.
