The new OS was originally expected in December

The Windows 10 Mobile launch date saga continues, this time with more information coming from a French carrier who says that the release of the new smartphone operating system has been delayed until late February. And that’s the earliest date, they say, which means that the launch might actually take place in March.

Here’s the story so far.

People close to the matter originally indicated that Microsoft planned to release Windows 10 Mobile in December, and the company itself confirmed through some of its social accounts that this was indeed the case. The December launch, however, was then delayed to early 2016, and the same sources claimed January was the new target.

There were even some voices pointing to January 12 as the launch day, but this was very unlikely, given the fact that it was then that Microsoft was expected to ship Patch Tuesday updates to computers across the world, so it was already a busy day.

February is the new January

But then, everyone believed Microsoft pushed the release of Windows 10 Mobile to late January, as several carriers confirmed the internal testing of the operating system and that they were waiting for Redmond’s go-ahead.

And yet, French carrier Bouygues Telecom now claims that the release of Windows 10 Mobile has been delayed until late February “the earliest.” This means that Microsoft has either discovered a major bug in the operating system at the very last minute or has more work to do before shipping it to Windows Phone devices.

What’s very clear, however, is that only new Lumia owners can enjoy Windows 10 Mobile, and unless you are an insider, it’s pretty much impossible to get the new OS on your Windows Phone device for the moment. Hopefully, Microsoft will provide us with more information on its release schedule so that all these rumors could finally go away and we would have a certain launch date.
