Stats show that not everyone upgrades to Windows 10

Windows 10 Mobile is only available for select devices running Windows Phone and this undoubtedly affects its adoption, but new statistics show that the new smartphone OS keeps improving its share.

It does it slowly, but at least it goes up, which can only be a good thing for Microsoft as it prepares more exciting projects for 2017.

Specifically, Windows 10 Mobile is currently running on 9.2 percent of Windows phones across the world, an increase of 1.5 percent, according to AdDuplex data. At the same time, Windows Phone dropped 2 percent last month to 79.1 percent, but it continues to hold steady to its market share, mostly thanks to the rather limited availability of Windows 10 Mobile.

What’s interesting is that Windows 10 Mobile isn’t the only version that increased last month, but also Windows Phone 8.0 and Windows Phone 7. According to the same market analyst firm, the gains in these cases are 0.1 percent and 0.3 percent, respectively.

“This would seem to suggest that not all the people leaving Windows Phone 8.1 are upgrading to Windows 10 Mobile, while those using devices that have an OS two or three generations old are continuing to use them,” the data shows.

Lumia 520 no longer the top Windows phone

The good news is that Lumia 520 is no longer the top Windows phone worldwide, as Lumia 535 took over the leading spot with 12.5 percent. Lumia 520 fell on the second place with 11.3 percent, followed by Lumia 640 with 8.3 percent and Lumia 640 with 8.3 percent. None of the new Lumia phones launched with Windows 10 Mobile is anywhere to be seen in these charts.

The biggest growth last month was recorded by Lumia 640, which improved its share by 1 percent. Both the 640 and the 640 XL can be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile.

In the coming months, Windows 10 Mobile’s share is expected to increase, but there’s no doubt that it’ll continue doing it at the same slow pace. The upcoming Anniversary Update should speed up the transition to Windows 10 Mobile, so we’re looking forward to see how the release scheduled to happen in July will improve things.
