Redmond running Redstone mobile build internally

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.107 a few hours ago, but the company is already testing a much newer version of the operating system that’s part of the Redstone branch.

Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, has confirmed in a tweet that he’s already running Windows 10 Mobile build 14260 internally, but obviously, he has refused to provide any information on when exactly members of the insider program could also make the switch to the Redstone branch.

Microsoft has also rolled out Windows 10 for PCs build 14257, part of the Redstone branch too, so the company might be trying to synchronize releases and bring them in line with each other sometime in the near future.

But for the moment, Windows 10 for PC insiders are the only ones who get to test Redstone builds, as mobile users are still on the original branch while the operating system is not yet available for Windows Phone devices.

Windows 10 Mobile by the end of the month

People close to the matter hinted that Windows 10 Mobile could see daylight by the end of the month, and if this is indeed accurate, the switch to Redstone builds for insiders could take place just after the public launch. Of course, this is just speculation at the moment, but it’s very likely that the official upgrade version that Microsoft would release to Windows Phone devices would be part of the TH1 channel.

Gabriel Aul has also refused to comment on rumors that Windows 10 Mobile might be launched in February, explaining that the “early 2016” schedule continues to be the target. Without more specifics available, some users are getting tired of waiting and are making the move to alternative platforms, so Microsoft had better accelerate work on the operating system and bring out the final version as soon as possible.

All Windows Phone devices are supposed to be eligible for the upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile, including handsets with just 512 MB of RAM.
