14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is expected to roll out a new Windows 10 Mobile Redstone build sometime this week, most likely on Tuesday or Wednesday, but at the same time, the company’s also working on bringing users a new cumulative update.
The Redstone build was originally supposed to launch last week together with the PC sibling, but due to a cellular data bug, the company decided to hold it back until a fix was developed. According to Gabe Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, the build is expected to launch this week, so now everyone’s waiting for this release.
Also this week, Microsoft is projected to provide users still running 10586 with a new cumulative update, and it appears that the company is already gearing up for the release, as version .218 has been spotted on its update servers.
Fixes, not new features
Not much can be said at this point, given the fact that all we have for now is a screenshot showing Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.218 ready for the release, but it’s important to note that cumulative updates only rarely bring new features, and they are rather focused on fixing bugs and improving performance.
This cumulative update is quite important for many Windows insiders, as devices that are not supported by the “RTM” Windows 10 Mobile upgrade can continue running preview builds as part of the 10586 branch. This means that they aren’t allowed to upgrade to Redstone releases, such as the one coming this week, and have to stick with 10586 and install these cumulative updates whenever they arrive.
For the moment, we should take this with a pinch of salt because Microsoft hasn’t yet confirmed the release of the cumulative update, but judging from all the evidence currently available out there, it appears that this is going to be a busy week for Windows 10 Mobile insiders.
