One build per week seems to be Microsoft’s new strategy

Microsoft has just updated PC insiders with a new Windows 10 Redstone preview build, and there’s now word that the company is getting ready to do the same for mobile, with a new release currently in the pipeline.

The latest build shipped by Redmond for Windows 10 Mobile devices participating in the Insider program is 10586.71 and arrived as a cumulative update, but new information suggests that 10586.104 is already being tested by Redmond’s internal teams and could get the go-ahead as soon as next week.

Right now, it appears that Microsoft is aiming to release a new build every week for both PCs and mobile devices, which is clearly a welcome change, given the fact that participating insiders expect the company to provide them with updates faster than before.

More builds, more bugs

In fact, Redmond itself promised to accelerate the release cadence for new Windows 10 builds on all devices, but this new strategy only came into effect in early 2016 and is now expanding to mobile phones as well.

But while it’s a good thing to see more builds coming so fast to Windows insiders, there’s also a downside: many of them include tons of bugs, so unless you’re ready to have your devices slowed down or impacted by various issues, you are recommended to switch to the slow ring.

At the same time, new builds released at such a faster pace would only rarely bring new features to the table, and Gabe Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program, has said that we still have to wait a little bit longer until big changes start showing up.

This will most likely be the case of 10586.104 too if it does see daylight next week, so do not expect any new features at this time. The focus is on fixing bugs and improving performance, which on Windows 10 Mobile is kind of critical to the future of the platform.
