Redmond decides to delay the release of a new preview build

Microsoft decided to cancel the release of Windows 10 Mobile build 10536 because of a major bug it found in this version at the very last minute, with the company now planning to come up with a new build sometime next week.

Gabriel Aul, the head of the Windows Insider program, started a poll on Thursday to let users choose whether build 10536 should be released to insiders on Friday despite some bugs or to wait a little bit longer until more issues are fixed. Insiders decided to get the build without waiting any longer and Microsoft planned to start the rollout on Friday morning in the United States.

But because of a major bug in build 10536, the company pushed back the release to next week, a decision which caused outrage among insiders who expected to get it before the weekend. There were plenty of rude words posted on Twitter today, many aimed at the Windows development team, but there's one thing that all insiders should have in mind when a delay occurs.

Pre-release software

While users’ frustration is somewhat understandable given the fact that the latest build was released on August 12, and Microsoft was supposed to speed up development of Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft has a very good reason for pushing back the launch.

Aul, who was criticized for teasing users with a release that was in the end canceled, explains that this is actually the risk of becoming an insider, as bugs found in pre-release software could make the company delay the launch of new versions at any given moment during development.

And he certainly has a point here, as Microsoft allows users to download and install very early builds of Windows 10 Mobile on their devices, a thing that no other company does right now.

“In the past, and with other companies, you see nothing, then an event, and final product. Bumps all hidden from you,” Aul said. “We're sorry for the bumps, & every time we hit one we learn, and refine our processes. But it's part of being Insider.”

A new Windows 10 Mobile build is now projected to launch next week and Gabe Aul claims the team is going to work during the weekend to make sure this one works smoothly.
