14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft announced recently that it would roll out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update for PCs on August 2, and now the company has confirmed that the release will take place simultaneously on all devices running the new operating system, including mobile phones.
Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said in a tweet that the rollout of the Anniversary Update would begin on August 2 for absolutely all devices, but it could take a while until everyone gets it because of the big number of devices running Windows 10.
According to Microsoft’s own figures, there are more than 350 million devices on Windows 10 already, and many others are expected to be upgraded by the time the Anniversary Update sees daylight.
The Anniversary Update will “roll out over time”
In a statement released today, Microsoft offers a closer look at how it plans to bring the Anniversary Update on devices running Windows 10, emphasizing that some might have to wait a bit longer to get it.
“Windows 10 on PC and mobile will be the first to receive the Anniversary Update. Other devices will get it over time, and we will have more to share on this in the future. The Anniversary Update will start on August 2nd and roll out over time. Given the scale of delivering updates to more than 350 million devices around the world, our rollout will be measured and deliberate to ensure we deliver a great customer experience,” the company states.
The Anniversary Update will bring a plethora of improvements on both PCs and mobile phones, including support for Edge extensions (exclusive to PCs, but to launch on mobile phones at a later time), swipe navigation support for the browser, new Cortana features, and many others.
Of course, the Anniversary Update will be completely free for everyone, and insiders will be the first to get it, as Microsoft wants to make sure that all bugs are fixed before retail users get it.
