14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft’s most powerful phone right now is the Lumia 950 XL, which comes with a Snapdragon 810 processor, while the best choice in the Windows 10 Mobile business is the HP Elite X3, which features an 820 CPU. But it appears that there’s more to come for Windows 10 devices.
As Neowin reported, Windows 10 Mobile already supports the unreleased Snapdragon 830 processor, which could be a sign not only that Microsoft is expecting partners to release more powerful devices but also that the company might actually prepare its own workhorse featuring this chipset.
Documentation published on MSDN shows that Windows 10 Mobile already supports the latest-generation processors, but also upcoming models that are supposed to offer improved performance.
The list includes MSM8994, MSM8992, MSM8952, MSM8909, MSM8208, MSM8996, MSM8953, and MSM8998, which represent Snapdragon 810, 808, 617, 210, 208, 820, 625, and 830, respectively.
At least 1 GB of RAM to run Windows 10 Mobile
Microsoft has also increased the minimum system requirements for Windows 10 Mobile, and now all devices must have at least 1 GB of RAM. This is basically further confirmation that 512 MB devices won’t get Windows 10 Mobile, despite the fact that the original plan was to provide the upgrade to all Windows Phone models.
As far as the Surface Phone is concerned, it’s hard to predict whether the device could come with the Snapdragon 830 processor, but sources close to the matter previously revealed that Microsoft planned to launch three different models of the phone in early 2017. It’s possible that one of these models comes with the 830, but once again, it’s premature to discuss such details.
Windows 10 Mobile is clearly improving significantly, and all these reports should be living proof that Microsoft is not by any means planning to give up on the platform. The company has already confirmed that it wants to focus on other projects this year, but more “cool things” are likely to be unveiled for Windows phones in 2017.
