Stats show that Windows 10 adoption is growing

Windows 10 Mobile is expected to debut either next month or in November, but in the meantime, everyone can give it a try by registering for the Windows Insider program and downloading the pre-release version of the operating system.

And it turns out that there are quite a lot of people who did that, as statistics provided by AdDuplex indicate that Windows 10 Mobile is currently running on 5 percent of Windows Phone devices.

This means that, despite being in development stage and not broadly available for everyone, Windows 10 Mobile is already convincing many to upgrade or at least give it a try, which is very encouraging for a company that hopes its future OS to be a hit.

Windows Phone 8.1 still number one

Just as expected, Windows Phone 8.1 is the number one version on devices running Microsoft’s mobile operating system, as 79 percent of the handsets are powered by this particular version.

Windows Phone 8 is the runner-up with 10.1 percent, followed by Windows Phone 7.x with 6.1 percent. Windows 10 Mobile is very close with 4.7 percent.

This might not seem much at the first look, but it’s worth knowing that Windows 10 Mobile managed to improve its share in 30 days by no less than 1.4 percent, which is quite a lot for an operating system that’s not yet released.

The very first devices running Windows 10 Mobile are expected to be unveiled next month as part of a Microsoft hardware event, but Windows Phone handsets are likely to get it in November. Rumor has it that the public release will take place when the TH2 update is ready, while Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL will launch with TH1.

The differences between the two will be insignificant, sources say, and Microsoft will focus mostly on improving performance and fixing bugs found in the original release.
