14 DAY TRIAL // New statistics show that Windows 10 keeps growing, although at a rather slow pace, while Windows 7 continues to lead the desktop market in a pretty dominant manner.
StatCounter reveals that Windows 7 was the leading choice for PC users around the world in February, dropping to 46.08 percent following the transition to Windows 10 that Microsoft is pushing for.
Windows 10, however, has managed to set a new personal best, achieving 14.86 percent and remaining the second most-used desktop operating system in the world.
But while Windows 10 has indeed managed to achieve an important growth, Windows 7 continues to have a market share that’s three times bigger, so Microsoft’s new operating system still has a hard time getting closer to its predecessor.
Windows 10 is offered as a free upgrade for devices running Windows 7 and 8.1, so adoption figures of the new operating system are expected to grow in the next few months, as the campaign is set to expire in July 2016. This is actually part of Microsoft’s plan to move everyone on Windows 10, especially given the fact that it’s aiming to have 1 billion devices running the new OS by 2017.
Windows XP going down
On the bright side, Windows XP’s market share is collapsing, which can only be good news for Microsoft, as the company had a really hard time convincing people to upgrade when support for the operating system ended in April 2014.
Windows XP is currently powering only 7.61 percent of the desktop computers around the world, and it’s continuously going down, and this is living proof that more users are migrating to modern versions of the operating system.
At the same time, Windows 8 is also declining and is currently at 3.01 percent, but this is not at all surprising, given the fact that part of the users are already upgrading to Windows 10.
