New stats show that Windows 10 grows up slowly

New market share statistics show that Windows 10 has improved in September to eventually reach a market share of 7.63 percent, the highest since its debut in late July.

Right now, Windows 10 is the fifth most-used operating system on the desktop, these stats reveal, but the best news is that it has already surpassed Windows 8, which is currently powering only 3.29 percent of the PCs across the globe.

On the other hand, Windows 7 is coping with Windows 10's arrival pretty well, so not only that it continues to be the number one desktop OS out there but it does it without any fear that it might lose the leading spot, with a market share that's still above 50 percent.

Right now, no less than 52.57 percent of the PCs worldwide are running Windows 7, which means that more than one in two sticks to the OS version launched in 2009.

Windows XP still alive and kicking

The surprising thing is that Windows XP continues to be the preferred choice for 9.48 percent of the desktop users, despite the fact that it no longer receives updates and security patches since April 2014. This obviously increases the risks of getting hacked, but it appears that security isn't quite critical to a big part of users.

OS X is fourth in the charts with 8.63 percent, followed by Windows 10 and Windows 8 with only 3.26 percent.

Keep in mind that these statistics might not be entirely accurate because they're based on page views recorded by websites running its tracking code, but it's still good enough to help us get an idea of how well Windows 10 is performing after launch.

Microsoft has a goal of bringing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, so it will be interesting to see if the new operating system manages to improve significantly in the coming months.
