Issue being experienced after performing the upgrade

The upgrade to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update has been a pretty smooth process for the majority of users, but there still are a few reports pointing to bugs that aren’t exactly widespread for the time being.

One of them seems to point to Windows Hello being broken down after the upgrade to the Fall Creators Update, with several users turning to the Microsoft Community forums to report the problem and ask for assistance.

Until now, the same problem has been confirmed on several HP Spectre x360 units and on Microsoft’s own Surface Pro, though it doesn’t seem to be in any way related to the hardware configuration of these devices.

Windows Hello is not available

After the upgrade, launching the Settings app and heading to the Windows Hello configuration screen displays a message reading “Windows Hello isn’t available on this device,” though the feature was running correctly before installing the Fall Creators Update.

“Upon boot, the camera doesn't turn on and search for my face even though Windows is saying it is looking for me. Not only that, when I log in manually it resets and I have to login again to dismiss the login screen. Sometimes, and only sometimes, will Hello work but only from waking up on sleep. When I try booting/rebooting, no dice. Whatever Microsoft did BROKE Windows Hello and it is pretty annoying,” one user explains.

There is no workaround available for the time being, and given the small number of reports, users are recommended to get in touch with Microsoft support on their own rather than wait for the company to acknowledge the issue and deliver a fix.

Also, one possible solution to address this bug is resetting the system, though it’s pretty clear this isn’t the most convenient way to go for everyone. Downgrading to the previous Windows version is also a solution that could fix the issue, but in this case, you’ll be losing all new features included in the Fall Creators Update.
