Microsoft has just published a new set of cumulative updates for Windows 10, and since the release takes place on Patch Tuesday, it’s critical for users to install them as soon as possible.

Windows 10 version 1809 is being provided with update KB4464455, and in addition to the typical security improvements that are part of the Patch Tuesday rollout, there are also non-security fixes that come to resolve bugs in the operating system.

You can check out the full changelog in the box at the end of the article, but worth highlighting are the following improvements.

There’s a fix for applications losing IPv4 connectivity when IPv6 is inbound, as well as a fix for long delays in taking photos with the Camera app in certain conditions. The latter is obviously aimed at devices like tablets where a camera is being used for taking pictures.

Critical security fixes

While the bug fixes that are part of cumulative update KB4464455 are reason enough to install this update as soon as possible, it’s worth noting that you also get lots of vulnerability fixes this month.

For example, there are patches for the Windows operating system and for Microsoft’s browsers. Microsoft Edge itself is getting patches regularly, and KB4464455 comes to further make the browser harder to crack by fixing flaws in the app.

KB4464455 increases the OS build number to 17763.107. To check the OS version number, type winver in the Start menu on your Windows 10 PC.

At the time of writing this article, there are no reports of failed installs hitting KB4464455, but as we learned the hard way, it could take a few minutes for users to begin reporting issues with cumulative updates. Circle back soon to learn whether it’s safe to install KB4464455 or not.
