Non-security improvements included in this new update

Microsoft has released cumulative update KB4088891 for Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703), and it brings several non-security improvements.

The previous release for this particular OS version landed on Patch Tuesday, so the focus at that point was on security fixes. This isn’t the case with KB4088891, as this cumulative update is all about quality improvements and addressing operating system bugs.

For example, this update addresses an issue in Microsoft Edge when opening PDF documents with backgrounds created using various third-party publishing tools. The software giant acknowledged the issue and now recommends users to install this cumulative update to make sure the PDF experience in Edge isn’t affected in any way.

No known issues

While you can find the entire changelog in the box at the end of the article, there’s also another important fix in cumulative update. Microsoft has corrected a problem with BitLocker decryption and encryption of a drive, as the company discovered that files protected with the Encrypted File System (EFS) may become corrupted.

Another good thing for users installing this cumulative update is that there are no known issues, which means that you should expect nothing else than flawless experience. This is quite a critical thing given that the majority of cumulative updates have caused quite a lot of issues on Windows 10 in the past, but it remains to be seen if the software giant has managed to address all problems with this release.

After you install KB4088891, the OS version should be bumped to version 15063.994, and you can check your OS build by typing winver in the Start menu. This way, you can make sure that your cumulative update installed correctly and also check out what version of Windows 10 you’re running.

As always, we’ll be keeping an eye out on reports to see if there are any failed installs or other issues with this update and let you known about any of them.
