This month’s Patch Tuesday rollout includes a cumulative update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and it features both security and non-security improvements.

Windows 10 cumulative update KB4088776 bumps the OS version to 16299.309, and to check if the update installed correctly, you can type winver in the Start menu and verify the version.

Naturally, this update comes with plenty of security fixes, so Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Windows Desktop Bridge, Windows Shell, and other Windows components are being targeted with patches for reported vulnerabilities.

There are also fixes for issues that were caused by previous cumulative updates, including for servers and client PCs. For example, it resolves bugs introduced by KB4090913 and breaking down the Mixed Reality Portal, with Microsoft says that the “We couldn’t download the Windows Mixed Reality Software” error should no longer show up.

Fixing issues caused by other cumulative updates

In terms of servers, Microsoft says that it also fixes a number of errors that were reported after the previous cumulative updates.

“Addresses issue where, after installing KB4056892,KB4073291, KB4058258, KB4077675, or KB4074588 on a server, you may not be able to access SMB shared files in directory junction points or volume mount points hosted on that server. The error is ‘ERROR_INVALID_REPARSE_DATA’. As a result, editing some group policies using GPMC or AGPM 4.0 may fail with the error ‘The data present in the reparse point buffer is invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80071128),’” the firm says.

There is just a single known issue in this update and it’s the same that existed in previous cumulative updates. Windows Update History might claim that the update failed to install correctly, but you can manually check for this by verifying the Windows version you are running.

KB4088776 has already installed fine on our systems here at Softpedia, but we’ll be keeping an eye on reports and let you know should any issues be experienced.
