14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft has shipped a series of new cumulative updates for Windows 10, and even though the number of systems hitting issues has dropped dramatically after the debut of the Creators Update, it turns out that there still are users out there coming across the very same bugs as before.
Windows 10 cumulative update KB4041676 is specifically aimed at the Creators Update, but judging from a number of user reports, the experience it provides is not exactly flawless.
First and foremost, it appears that KB4041676 freezes during the download or takes forever to install, with some users claiming they’ve been waiting for the process to complete for more than 4 hours. This is clearly unexpected behavior for a cumulative update, especially on systems that were already up-to-date where just a small package needs to be downloaded and installed.
Then, there are reports that KB4041676 fails to install, with the same issues as before, as users are getting a simple message telling them that the OS couldn’t install updates and it proceeds to undoing changes. The system then reboots to go back to the desktop once again.
Only a few reports so far
Fortunately, the number of users complaining about KB4041676 issues is still small at this point, but we’ll keep an eye on discussions started on reddit and Microsoft Community forums (here and here) to see if these are more widespread problems or only isolated reports.
At this point, no workaround appears to be available, though in one case users were recommended to try removing third-party security products, as they could block the install and deployment of new updates. You could indeed try this, and as a last resort, manually downloading and installing the cumulative updates is also worth a chance.
Microsoft hasn’t acknowledged the issues just yet, most likely because only a few users seem to be hitting them, but we’ll continue to monitor the forums and let you know should an update be provided.
