Isolated reports pointing to another faulty update

Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 cumulative update KB3200970 a few hours ago, and it turns out that just like its predecessors, this one is experiencing some installation issues as well.

Cumulative updates are particularly important for Windows users because installing the latest one always brings a computer fully up to date, but this has been pretty much impossible lately given all the errors that computers received after the latest releases.

First and foremost, there are users complaining that KB3200970 fails to install just like the previous cumulative updates, explaining that the operating system attempts the install, but then restores the previous settings and boots to the desktop. The update is then re-offered, before it fails to install once again, pushing the system into an infinite loop that can’t be blocked until KB3200970 is hidden or installs successfully.

Then, there are users who reveal that Windows Update is stuck in a loop trying to download, which causes high CPU usage and obviously slows down the computer.

And last but not least, we’ve also seen a few complaints claiming that the update got stuck while downloading, making it impossible to complete the process (we’ve seen similar issues in the past with previous cumulative updates too).

Only isolated reports so far

For the moment, it appears that all these reports are still isolated for the time being, so it looks like Microsoft actually managed to improve the distribution of cumulative updates and prevent bugs from happening on Windows 10 computers.

Previous cumulative updates came with many more bugs, some of which were never fixed, but with a little luck, this won’t be the case with KB3200970.

Cumulative update KB3200970 is specifically aimed at systems running Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) and includes several important fixes and improvements for the operating system itself and for the components and apps that come bundled. Additionally, it also boasts security fixes that were released by Microsoft on Patch Tuesday.
