KB3194496 still fails to install on some Windows 10 PCs

Microsoft finally rolled out a fix for Windows 10 cumulative update KB3194496, but it appears that despite this, a number of users are still unable to complete installation on their PCs.

For the moment, Microsoft is yet to acknowledge these issues once again, but the company previously confirmed that there were indeed installation problems on some insider PCs.

The fix that the company released yesterday fails to make any difference in some cases, and posts on Reddit and on Microsoft’s Community forums confirm that another patch is needed.

Even though the firm says the update is specifically aimed at insiders, users who aren’t running a preview build of Windows 10 are also experiencing installation issues with KB3194496 and, once again, this newly-released fix doesn’t repair anything.

Other workarounds

Users have already started searching for other workarounds, and one of those whose computer was impacted by the installation issues claims he already found one. But what’s important to note is that all these failing updates shipped by Microsoft force users to turn off automatic updates, which isn’t quite the best thing to do when aiming for maximum performance and security.

“So my ‘Fix’ for this was to uninstall KB3194496, created a new User Account, and transfer. Works perfectly. I tried to download this CU on my broken account but it's so messed up to the point where I'm not able to view the auto-window where I accept and start downloading. Worst update ever. Not an insider either. Waiting until the next CU that isn't messed up. Till then AutoUpdates == Off,” user /u/VederPlet said on reddit.

A new cumulative update will be released on Tuesday as part of the monthly update cycle, so hopefully, this new one will work flawlessly and install on all computers successfully. As usual, installing the latest cumulative update brings a system completely up to date, so even if you skip this one, the next version due on Tuesday will still do the job.
