Microsoft rolled out a new cumulative update for Windows 10

Microsoft rolled out a new cumulative update for Windows 10 earlier today, but the company hasn't provided any kind of information regarding the new improvements, so it's really hard to spot any difference especially if your copy of the OS ran flawlessly.

But according to a Microsoft employee who posted on reddit, the cumulative update actually includes fixes for one of the most critical issues in Windows 10 affecting Cortana and the Start menu.

Ever since Microsoft launched Windows 10 on July 29, a number of users have been experiencing issues with these two features, as they both failed to launch and displayed an error indicating a “critical issue” that required a restart to be fixed.

The issue might persist after the update

No matter how many reboots have been performed, the issue still exists, so this new cumulative update is here to address the problem once and for all. And yet, the Microsoft engineer says the company is still looking into this error, so in case you install the cumulative update and still get it, more patches might be coming very soon.

“This update contains more improvements for anyone who's been seeing issues with start menu reliability or the critical error dialogs mentioning start and/or Cortana - def jump on it if you're one of those impacted,” the Microsoftie said.

“Team continues to actively investigate other underlying causes for these issues, we appreciate your patience.”

Both the Start menu and Cortana are essential features of Windows 10, so it's a little bit frustrating for users not to be able to launch them, especially because, in some cases, there's no other working way to access installed applications files stored locally.

Obviously, if you're one of the many experiencing this problem, make sure you install the new cumulative update as soon as possible and let us know in the comment box after the jump whether it fixed the issue for you or not.
