Windows 10 was launched on July 29, and since then, adoption figures have been on the rise, with market research firms across the world revealing that the new operating system performs even better than Windows 7, which, as we know, is Microsoft’s latest big hit in this side of the business.

At the end of August, Windows 10 had a market share of 5.33 percent, and according to new data provided by StatCounter, the new OS has already improved by more than 1.5 points in approximately one week.

Windows 10 currently has a share of 6.93 percent and still remains the fifth most-used desktop operating system in the world, after Windows 7, which obviously leads the market with 52.57 percent, Windows 8.1 with 13.54 percent, Windows XP with 9.48 percent, and OS X with 8.44 percent.

The rollout continues

Microsoft has plans to bring Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017, and in order to archive this, the company first has to upgrade all Windows 7 and 8.1 computers.

Redmond is rolling out Windows 10 in stages, and despite the fact that this process started more than 30 days ago, some PCs are still waiting to get it. This is because of the compatibility issues that might exist on their computers, as Microsoft is working to first solve any potential problems and only then offer the upgrade.

“We’ve been really pleased with the strong response to Windows 10 with over 75 million Windows 10 devices activated thus far. We continue to upgrade Windows 7 & 8.1 devices in an ongoing deployment of Windows 10 worldwide. Our focus is on deploying Windows 10 in a thoughtful rollout to ensure our customers have a great upgrade experience,” a company spokesperson told us.

The free upgrade offer for Windows 10 lasts until July 29, 2016, so expect adoption figures to continue growing in the coming months, as more PCs get the new OS.
