New build available for insiders in the Fast ring

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 build 16237 for Windows insiders in the Fast ring, again shipping a long series of improvements ahead of the public launch of the Fall Creators Update in September.

Microsoft Edge browser is one of the apps getting substantial improvements in this build, including options to read aloud with word and line highlights for all websites, but also for PDF documents. There are also lots of fixes for Edge, and Microsoft says that many of them are based on user feedback.

Windows Shell received several important tweaks, and one of them concerns high DPI support. Starting with this build, you no longer have to log out and back in to Windows to fix blurry desktop apps after docking, undocking, or remoting, and you simply need to close the app to have its settings reset.

“In this flight we’ve changed the way that Windows provides DPI-related information to these applications such that each time one of these applications starts, they’ll get updated data from Windows. This means that for these applications, you simply re-launch them in order for them to render correctly if they’re blurry. While this isn’t what we all want: having these applications render crisply all the time, we feel that it’s a lot less painful to relaunch apps instead of having to close out of all apps and going through a log-out/log-in cycles,” Microsoft explains.

Updated Task Manager

What’s important to know is that these new settings do not work with all desktop apps just yet and they do not support secondary displays in extend mode. Also, they’re not aimed at Store apps.

The Notification and Action Center have also been refined with several tweaks, including refinements to the way notifications look on the desktop, while MyPeople got a few touches to align with the color of your system theme.

Task Manager has also received an update with this build, so the GPU performance tracker benefits from an improved UI Layout, with more information like DirectX version and the physical location of the GPU.

Just like with every other build released for the Fast ring, there are known issues as well, so you can check them out in the box after the jump.
