Microsoft has just released a new Windows 10 build, once again for members of the Windows Insider fast ring and supposed to fix bugs and improve performance of the operating system ahead of the public launch of the Anniversary Update on August 2.

Windows 10 build 14393 brings fixes on both PC and mobile, and Microsoft is clearly taking significant steps towards finalizing work on the Anniversary Update.

PCs, for instance, get improved reliability of Start, Cortana, and Action Center, all of which have been revamped for the Anniversary Update. The Start menu comes with a new UI that includes a hamburger icon and puts apps in the spotlight while the Action Center has received an important facelift to show more relevant information, group notifications, and dismiss them with a middle click.

Additionally, this new build should allow PC users to mount iPods as USB mass-storage devices, which is meant to make it easier for you to copy music to and from the iPod.

Windows 10 Mobile getting fixes too

Windows 10 Mobile users are getting plenty of fixes, many of which concern battery problems that were experienced on certain devices, including Lumia 535 and 930.

There are also known issues on both PC and mobile, but the number is significantly decreasing, so it’s very clear that the Anniversary Update is taking shape quite nicely. In the case of PCs, there’s just a known bug, and it impacts Surface devices.

“We are aware of certain cases in which Surface Books and Surface Pro 4’s may bugcheck (bluescreen) due to a camera driver issue. An updated driver will roll-out via Windows Update soon that will fix this,” Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, has explained in an announcement today.

The Anniversary Update is projected to hit the shelves on August 2, but Windows insiders will be the first to get it in order to ensure proper testing before the public release. At this point, it’s not yet clear when the final build will be compiled, as more testing builds are likely to be introduced in the coming days.
