Users enrolled in the Release Preview rings can get it now

Microsoft shipped the final version of Windows 10 Mobile Anniversary Update after such a long wait, and minutes later, the company has also rolled out a new cumulative update for insiders enrolled in the Release Preview ring (not fast and slow, as originally stated - thanks everyone for the correction!).

What’s important to note is that Windows 10 build 14393.82 is not available to retail users, so only those who have registered their devices to receive preview builds can get it, including here both PCs and mobile devices. There’s no changelog just yet, but given the fact that this build is shipped as a cumulative update, the chances are that the focus is all on bug fixes and performance improvements.

Mixed feedback

Judging from the feedback sent by those who have already installed Windows 10 build 14393.82, the new version provides mixed results on devices.

For example, there are users who claim that their phones are a lot faster now after installing .82 while others believe that the Anniversary Update (version .67) was actually better. At the same time, a few Windows 10 Mobile users complained that their phones were getting hotter after installing this version, so maybe Microsoft still needs to fix a few more things before rolling it out to retail users.

In case you’re wondering how come only the Release Preview ring has received this update, it’s because both the fast and the slow rings are ready for RS2, so devices have already been configured to receive Redstone 2 builds.

And this should happen in the coming days or next week, with Microsoft promising to ship Redstone 2 preview builds to mobile devices once the Anniversary Update goes live for retail users too. The first Windows 10 Redstone 2 build has already launched for PC users, and the next version is likely to land for desktops and smartphones at the same time.

You can download the new build if you are enrolled in the Release Preview ring through the typical phone update system in Settings > Update & security > Phone update > Check for updates.
