New build based on 14393 spotted online today

Microsoft is now putting the final touches to Windows 10 Anniversary Update, but it turns out that, before retail users start receiving the RTM bits on August 2, the company still wants to release one last build to insiders.

As WinBeta reports, Windows 10 build 14393.31 has been spotted online, and this is the first sign that a new release is imminent, obviously as a cumulative update for insiders in the fast ring.

Since we’re only a few days away from the moment when the Anniversary Update goes live for everyone, .31 could be released as soon as this week, and why not, as soon as today. Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, hasn’t dropped any hints that a new cumulative update could be released, but neither did she about the previous releases based on 14393, so anything’s possible.

The most recent cumulative update released for Windows insiders pushed Windows 10 to version 14393.5, so a huge bump to .31 could signal the introduction of one significantly large pack of improvements.

No new features, just bug fixes

As you probably know by now, cumulative updates do not bring any new features, and it doesn’t make sense to include any now that we’re so close to the public launch, so the focus is on fixing bugs and improving performance at the very last minute.

The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will debut for both PCs and mobile devices, so this new cumulative update will also be released to users on the two platforms.

The official rollout will start on August 2, but as we’ve said so many times before, it’s important to keep in mind that not everyone will get it during the same day, as the company is going for a staged release because it’s nearly impossible to offer a smooth upgrade since Windows 10 is running on more than 350 million devices around the world.

Fortunately, we’re almost there, and even if this new cumulative update doesn’t get the green light, we have less than a week to wait until we receive the final bits of the Anniversary Update.
