Screenshots of unreleased version now available

Now that Microsoft's #Windows10Devices event is over, everyone's waiting for the company to roll out new Windows 10 preview builds for PCs and mobile as it promised last week.

In the meantime, there are new leaked screenshots out there showing Windows 10 build 10551, an unreleased version of the PC operating system which brings a number of improvements over 10547, but not so many as compared to the leaked 10558 (10547 is the latest official build that Microsoft rolled out to fast insiders in September).

Coming from Russian leaker WZor, these screenshots reveal only small improvements here and there, but we already knew that in this particular build, Edge already received updates, such as synchronization options. They're not pictured here, but previous leaks confirmed that, so expect the very same features to be part of the next public release too.

Unlikely to ship to users

Since it brings only small changes over 10547, Windows 10 build 10551 is very unlikely to be release to Windows insiders for testing, so Microsoft is expected to go for a newer build which probably includes most of the things we've seen in 10558.

Pundits claim that we're getting closer to the public launch of the first major Windows 10 update, so Redmond must start testing more significant improvements, such as Edge extensions and the aforementioned synchronization support.

For the moment, extensions are yet to show up in any leak so far, but sources familiar with Microsoft's plans said that they should arrive in Edge sometime in late October or early November, so with a little luck, they should be here in just a few weeks.

Microsoft hasn't yet announced the release date of the new Windows 10 build, but expect a new version to land this week either for PCs or for mobiles. The other one should be available for download next week.
