Microsoft has just rolled out Windows 10 build 10547 to users enrolled in the fast ring of the Windows Insider program, providing them with an early look at some of the features that could be part of the first major OS update coming later this year.

This particular build is currently offered to the fast ring only, so there are no standalone ISOs and the only way to get it is via Windows Update. Of course, it’s only a matter of time until ISOs built by users reach the web, but if you want it right now, Windows Update is the main option.

Build 10547 comes with some improvements to the Start menu and now makes it possible for users to have a fourth column instead of just three. What’s more, the Start menu now supports 2,048 live tiles, which should come in handy to those who want to pin as many apps as possible.

Tablet mode and background improvements

This new release also comes with enhancements to tablet mode, which now lets you snap apps to left and right, replace a previously snapped app and swipe down to close one.

At the same time, there are several app updates in this build, some of which have already been released to Windows 10 users in the last few days.

“For example - we’ve updated the Photos app to introduce a folder view that makes it easy for you to see your OneDrive and PC folders. The Xbox app has also received a pretty big update - you can read about it here from Xbox Wire. And many other apps such as Groove, Mail and Calendar and Maps have also received updates. Make sure to check the Store for updates,” Microsoft explains.

And last but not least, Microsoft now provides an option to disable the background photo in the sign-screen that’s available in the Settings app > Personalization > Lock screen menu.

Keep in mind that this is still part of the fast ring, so a number of bugs are still included, and it shouldn’t be installed on your main PC.
