14 DAY TRIAL // Everyone's waiting for Windows 10 to hit the market on July 29, but in the meantime, Microsoft provided Windows insiders with a new testing build that's supposed to provide the best performance of all versions released so far since the beginning of the program in October 2014.
Windows 10 build 10166 is now available for download for fast ring users and just like the company said some weeks ago, it's all about bug fixes and performance improvements.
You won't find any major changes in this build, except for one new app called Microsoft Wi-Fi that allows you to purchase paid access to wireless network in the Seattle area straight from the Windows Store. Microsoft says this is a new feature that could be part of RTM, with the company planning to expand its coverage to the entire US in the coming weeks.
Fastest build so far
After running this build for about one day, it's pretty clear that 10166 is indeed the most stable version of Windows 10 released so far, working faster than any of its predecessors and coming with no major bug.
This is actually what Microsoft promised from the very beginning and now that we're getting closer to RTM, which according to some sources should be reached sometime next week, work on Windows 10 is coming to an end and the builds that insiders are provided with work almost the same as the final version that will be unveiled on July 29.
“For those of you on older builds – now is definitely the time to upgrade to the most current build. Thank you to all of our Windows Insiders who have given us terrific feedback and helped us shape Windows 10. We’re getting close to release now and the whole team here is working hard and incredibly excited!” Gabe Aul, head of the Insider program, said, suggesting that this could be the last build before RTM.
Windows 10 build 10166 ISOs are also available for download if you want to perform a clean install, so you have no excuse for not giving this one a try.
