LastPass extension shows up in the Windows Store

Microsoft’s work on Edge browser extensions advances at a really fast pace, and new add-ons reach the store on a regular basis. The most recent addition to the Windows Store is LastPass, a browser extension that brings password managing capabilities to the app.

LastPass reached the store for the first time a few hours ago, but it was quickly removed and then republished with different requirements that make it impossible for us to get it. The extension now needs Windows 10 build 14359, but given the fact that the newest release is 14352, nobody can download it anymore.

On Windows 10, LastPass comes with the same capabilities as it does on other platforms and allows you to save passwords for websites and automatically fill in forms while browsing the web.

We’re seeing reports that, in some cases, the extension is quite slow (for users who actually managed to install it), so there’s clearly room for improvement. Most likely, LastPass will become available for insiders when the next build of Windows 10 arrives, which, according to these app requirements, could be 14359.

Extension support coming in Redstone

Although it’s currently available exclusively for insiders, extension support is projected to land in Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update, also known as Redstone, due in the summer.

Microsoft’s original announcement said that the company aimed to make all Google Chrome extensions compatible with Edge browser with very little work. And it appears that this plan is going forward, given that more and more extensions already support the new Windows 10 browser.

In the Anniversary Update, extensions will be published in the store, and users will be able to install them just like any other app. For the moment, Edge adoption isn’t going very well, not only due to the lack of features but also because of its limited availability, but there are hopes that, with the arrival of extensions, it can become a better rival to the likes of Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.
