Windows 10 keeps improving its market share, and data provided by NetMarketShare for the month of November 2016 shows that Microsoft’s latest operating system achieved a share of 23.72 percent.

The growth experienced by Windows 10 slowed down in the last few months and nearly stagnated in October, when it improved from 22.53 percent to only 22.59 percent, but it appears that the operating system is once again improving at a faster pace.

The good performance posted by Windows 10 coincides with a decline recorded by Windows 7 last month, as the operating system launched in 2009 fell from 48.38 percent in October to 47.17 percent.

While it’s hard to tell if users who abandoned Windows 7 actually moved to Windows 10, the growing versus dropping trend can only be good news for Microsoft, who is hoping to see more people migrating to its latest OS in the coming months and years.

Windows 7 and Windows 10 leading the pack

Windows 7 and Windows 10 are clearly the preferred choices of Windows users, although there still are users running XP, but these are most likely organizations, companies, and state departments that are yet to migrate to newer operating systems. Windows XP support ended in April 2014, but the OS is still running on some 8.63 percent of PCs worldwide.

Windows 8.1 is also dropping fast, and these new stats put it at 8.01 percent, while the core Windows 8 operating system is now powering only 1.96 percent of the PCs.

Overall, Windows continues to be the dominating operating system on desktop computers with a share of 90.95 percent, followed by Apple’s Mac with 6.74 percent. Linux is also improving and is now at 2.31 percent. This is actually a drop for Windows, as Microsoft’s desktop OS powered 91.39 percent of PCs worldwide in October, but it’s still better than September’s 90.85 percent market share.
