The phones will be receiving OS updates soon

A few days ago, Cyanogen announced that it would shut down all of its services by the end of the year, in an attempt to consolidate the company. All Cyanogen services and nightly builds will be disconnected by December 31 this year and the move will affect all major smartphone makers that provided Cyanogen OS on their phones.

One such smartphone maker is UK-based company Wileyfox, which manufactures budget and mid-range phones. The company recorded low profit margins, in part thanks to the partnership with Cyanogen Inc.

Wileyfox recently reached out to customers with statements on the company’s move following Cyanogen’s collapse. Wileyfox’s statement was posted on Reddit.

Wileyfox will be transitioning to Nougat and bring timely updates

“Our OS Strategy and Software plan moving forward will be complete soon. We have agreed a smooth transition where we will continue deliver constant and consistent software and OS updates. Our plan is to bring our entire Wileyfox portfolio onto Android N, the latest version of Google Android’s OS, in a timely manner - while still continuing to protect the range with Google software security updates. We will share our full and final plan in due time.”

Wileyfox’s portfolio includes smartphones like the Spark, Spark+, Spark X, Swift 2 and Swift 2 Plus, which will receive updates to Nougat. It remains to be seen when that will happen, but the company will surely release more information on the matter soon.

Wileyfox started selling smartphones back in 2015, when it announced the Spark and Swift phones. The smartphones arrived with CyanogenOS 12.1 on board, which was based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. They had satisfactory mid-range specs and some of them even came with Sony-branded main cameras. The latest phones that Wileyfox launched were the Swift 2 and Swift 2 Plus with Cyanogen 13.1 out of the box, which came out in early November.
